Founder of WAVES, Mika is a secondary Science teacher in Plymouth.

At NEU Annual Conference Mika moved a motion to develop a national program of Anti-misogyny reps in every school. NEU delegates voted unanimously to support the work and WAVES was created.

Mika won the 2026 Annie Higdon Award, which is presented to a member, or team, in recognition and celebration of their work to challenge sexism and engage women in the union movement.
